Pick a piece from our selection of pottery which we aim to try to source from UK suppliers, supporting UK business and also helping reduce our carbon footprint where possible.
Prices will start from £18 and vary on style and size of the piece you choose.
When you have picked your piece of pottery, you will then use a sponge and water provided to prep your piece for painting.
The paint used in pottery painting are called underglazes. At first, they present as a muted colour whilst being painted on. So we have provided a colour wheel on the wall of the studio. The colours on the wheel represent what the colours will look like when they have been glazed and fired in our kiln. The colours on the wheel are numbered and those numbers then correspond with the numbered bottles on your table. When you have decided on your colour palette, you then use the tile we provide as your paint palette, put a small amount of each colour on to the tile, pick up your desired brush and start painting. The more coats you put on your piece, the more vibrant the colour will be when it is fired in the kiln. The advised amount of coats you need for a vibrant colour is three.
At Buxton Pottery Painting, we will provide a number of different pieces of equipment such as brushes and sponges to help you create the piece you probably have designed since booking your table. You can use a pencil to draw your design onto the bisque, we advise you do this lightly so it burns off completely when we fire your piece. If you feel you have chosen the wrong colour, approach us and we will lightly sand the area back for you to then apply the colour you want.
At Buxton Pottery, we have taken great care in our approach to what food and drink we wish to offer our customers whilst they paint. We have sourced locally roasted coffee, provided by Buxton Coffee Roasters. Their supply chain is farmer to roaster and the roastery is less than 3 miles away, so your coffee cannot get any fresher. We also offer other beverages, all equally as tasty. There will be vegan and decaf options available.
Our cakes are locally and freshly baked by Leanne at Crumbs Bakery. We offer seasonally flavoured cakes, loafs and tray bakes. She is also based less than a mile from the studio so super fresh bakes will always be on the menu. There will be a vegan option available too.
We hope to provide locally made sausage rolls and pasties for those with a hunger pang in the future, we will keep you posted.
When you have finished your piece, you will then need to leave it with us so it can be given a beautiful finish.
Once dry, we glaze your piece and then we then carefully place into our onsite kiln, where it will undergo a controlled firing process, enhancing its durability and bringing out the colours you used, bringing it to life. This transformation is crucial for achieving a beautiful, finished product that not only showcases your creativity whilst being able to stand the test of time.
When we have fired your creations, we will message you or post out your creations as soon as they have been cooled, checked and wrapped up, please contact us about our current turn around times as they can vary time of year dependant. If you do a require a quick turnaround please pop this in the notes on your booking or inform us as soon as possible and we will endeavour to make this happen, whilst ensuring that your creations are handled with the utmost care and attention that they deserve.
We offer postage of your items on request (subject to cost).
